Double Gold Medal - New York Wine Classic, August 7, 2020, Watkins Glen, NY

The 2014 Cabernet Franc Grand Vintage was aged for 17 months in neutral French oak. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. Burly, very tight and showing far better structure than fruit, this emphasizes its acidity and backbone, but doesn't show a lot of flesh, flavor or character. Not to be released until July, this certainly needs some time to settle down and integrate its components. It will likely be better, in fact, in 2019. A bit charmless just now, given its dusty finish and subdued fruit, this still has considerable potential given its impressive structure. It should come around well. Keep your hands off of it for a few years if you can. It is all about the potential now, but it seems to have plenty.
